Internships

Clay Bottom Farm Internship Program

Our farm would not be possible without the help of generous and talented interns.  We have the following interning options–all are OPEN POSITIONS:

Part-time Internship: Tuesdays and Thursdays, April-Nov., 9 am -3pm Our part-time program gives volunteers a chance to get their hands dirty in healthy, outdoor farm work for two days each week.  Interns also assist at our farm booth and with CSA deliveries.  In exchange, we feed everyone lunch and send them home with a bag of produce.

Summer Full-time Internship: May 15-Sept 15. Other start/end dates are possible.  Rustic housing and food is available.

Fall Full-time Internship: Sept 15-Dec. 20 The Fall season is our second Spring–we replant our Spring vegetables in greenhouses and harvest through Christmas.  We also continue to grow many outdoor crops until the ground freezes.

Work for full-time interns varies from field work to construction projects (like putting up fences or greenhouses) to sales at our farmers market booth.

Our workday schedule is 8:00 am – 5 pm (except for harvest days which start and end earlier).

Work days are Tuesday-Saturday.  Sunday and Monday are days off.   Other days off are scheduled through the season for holidays, etc.  We will often have chores and other tasks that need accomplished on “off” days.  Volunteers may assist with those if they would like, but it is not expected.

Housing consists of a loft room in our barn and a kitchen/bath facility, as well a vintage Spartan trailer on our property.  Some interns from the local area choose to commute to our farm.

If you are interested in more information or to apply, contact us at benchartman@hotmail.com or 574.642.4123.  Preference is given local and returning volunteers.
