What is CBD?
CBD, cannabidiol, refers to the oils derived from the flowers of the hemp plant. While hemp (Cannabis sativa) and its plant cousin marijuana (Cannabis indica) both contain CBD, hemp has less than 0.3% of the psychoactive compound THC.
There are over 100 compounds found in the hemp flower. Hemp grown at Clay Bottom Farm is processed to retain as many of these compounds as possible, making a full-spectrum whole flower extract containing cannabinoids and terpenes.
CBD products are used internally or topically. The many compounds present in full spectrum extract may be able to bind to cannabinoid receptors in the central and peripheral nervous system, helping to maintain homeostasis in the body.

Our CBD hemp is unique because it is a craft product. Most CBD products on the market use oils from large-scale, industrialized hemp farms. The growing process on these farms is mechanical, and often relies on heavy chemical use. At Clay Bottom Farm, we use local leaves to make high-carbon compost, which feeds our hemp. No chemicals are ever applied to plant or soil. Every cannabis plant is carefully tended to. This translates into higher quality CBD oil and better results for the customer.
The 2019 Farm Bill legalized the growing of hemp for the first time since World War II by authorizing states to implement hemp-growing programs overseen by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Clay Bottom Farm participated one of the first research studies in Indiana as a hemp grower, partnering with Purdue University.
All Clay Bottom Farm CBD products have been tested by a third-party laboratory and contain less than 0.3% THC.
Our CBD Products and Testing
In 2019 we started growing hemp (cannabis with less than 0.3% THC). From a botanical perspective, cannabis is the most incredible crop we have ever grown: its biomass production outpaces any other crop; and it is aromatic, beautiful, and incredibly utilitarian--as a medicine, high-protein food, and fiber.
Our hemp is processed into full-spectrum CBD tinctures that are sold in the Goshen, Indiana area. Tinctures are available in a variety of strengths and flavors and have been tested by a third-party laboratory to assure quality and safety.
